The System Operation & Market Design Working Group will hold an online session on Monday, November 15, 3:00 – 5:00 pm (eastern US). See below for the list of topics and discussion items for the meeting.
3:00 – 3:30 p.m. Introduction and key updates
The group will share some of the key recent activities occurring over the last six months related to system operations and market design in key regions around the world. The chairs may ask for some input from some key working group members that have interesting updates to share.
3:30 – 3:55 p.m. Hybrids Task Force
The Hybrids Task Force has been looking at the emergence of new hybrid resources that consist of one or more co-located technologies that are being interconnected and planned for across the world, and especially in the United States. The task force has been set up to evaluate key industry challenges such as interconnection, operations and market design, and resource adequacy contributions among other topics. The task force plans to share some guidelines for the industry to ensure that these resources and the flexibility they can provide are utilized at their full potential. The task force will provide an update on the reports and meetings that have happened to date.
3:55 – 4:20 p.m. Flexibility Resources Task Force
The Flexibility Resources Task Force is looking at other resources such as industrial electrification and hydrogen that may be important to achieve society goals for 100% zero-emission energy. These resources are not well understood by power system operators and planners and the task force explores the capabilities of the technologies and their role on a decarbonized supply fleet. The task force will provide an update on the work to date.
4:20 – 4:45 p.m. DER Open Networks Task Force
The DER Open Networks Task Force is evaluating the innovative ways in which DERs can provide services to the bulk power system reliably and efficiently, and participate in wholesale electricity markets. The task force is looking at various options around the world including U.S. FERC Order 2222 and UK Open Networks. The task force will provide an update on the discussion so far.
4:45 – 5:00 p.m. Summary and Next Session
The working group will discuss potential topics that are of interest to the group to include for the next call.
